Speaking on Monday during the event, Orwoba said the move also aimed to decongest Kawangware Primary School which has a high population.

Through the initiative, Orwoba volunteered to cater for the students' transport for two years since the matatu operators in the area were ignoring them.

She said the bus would be picking up the students at a specific point in Dagoretti North and ferry them to Kileleshwa Primary School.

"There are some parents who wanted to take their children to Kileleshwa Primary and wanted to pay for public transport but they were told that the matatus were not accepting pupils inside the matatus," Orwoba said.

"What I have done is to step in and provide transport. I have hired a matatu together with my friends to pick the learners every morning and drop them at Kileleshwa Primary School then ferry them back."

The senator has also provided the students with full school uniforms, desks and paid their admission fees.

She called on the Ministry of Education to provide a school bus to Kileleshwa Primary School, to ease the burden as most of her funding comes from her pocket.

"This is a short-term measure. The long-term measure is for the Ministry of Education to look into this kind of situation because Kileleshwa Primary really needs a school bus," Orwoba said.

"As you know I don't have CDF or funding but I think the permanent solution is for the ministry to provide a school bus to Kileleshwa Primary School so that we can have the students picked up and brought to school."

Jackline Wafula one of the beneficiariary parents' said the initiative has enabled her children to enhance their studies.

"The ratio of a teacher to a student has been a great challenge in the former school. Now that they will be going to a public school, they will study well," Wafula said.
