Missing marks in the university are jeopardising many students and causing a lot of frustration to those expecting to graduate.
It is sad that after a long period of study and preparation for exams, one realizes that after transcripts were released, there are some missing marks.
It is very discouraging to students who tirelessly read and sit for the exam, continuous assessment tests and adhere to all the exam regulations and requirements only to have missing marks in their transcripts.
Such an occurrence is not only discouraging but also time-wasting because once you realise you have some missing marks, you move from one office to another to trace them.
Sometimes students are forced to resit the same which becomes tormenting.
The situation gets worse if the lecturer who taught that particular unit was a part-timer and after he or she taught, they left the institution and there is no possible way for the students to reach them for further clarification.
This situation is wearing the students out and it’s like a ticking bomb waiting to blow.
At times, such occurrences may make students miss out on the graduation list and fail to graduate on time.
This then leads to the rise in dropout cases in universities especially students who are not persistent enough to follow up.
It also lowers the student's performance capacity and affects their academic prowess.
Therefore, who is to blame for all this crisis, is it the student, the lecturers or the computer systems?
Should we assume this as a lecturer negligence or system inefficiencies?
This is because the students are not to blame for this inconvenience. After all, they fairly deliver their part.
The university administration should resolve such issues immediately to ensure efficiency.
Such situations should not also stop any student from graduating or compromising their future.
