In Summary

  • All sane Kenyans must wonder where Linturi was in Kenya in 2007-08. Linturi is a major threat to national security.
  • Linturi must be taught that there is a world of difference between the unity and peace in a country and the ambitions of one politician.
Meru Senator Mithika Linturi after he was arrested by DCI detectives attached to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission over his remarks during a rally in Eldoret on January 7, 2022.

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi’s penchant for courting notoriety knows no boundary

It is the wood that keeps his deranged recklessness burning.

The danger is he has lit a match that might spark off an ethnic inferno reminiscent of the 2007-08 mayhem in which, regrettably, Eldoret featured in a hugely bloody fashion.

Linturi outburst was well calculated. His intentions are clear. He reminded the blood-thirsty thugs that killed and maimed non-Kalenjins to get their guns and cans of petrol ready.

But the mindless incendiary rubbish must be stopped.

Linturi must be taught that there is a world of difference between the unity and peace in a country and the ambitions of one politician.

Winning can never be a matter of life and death.

We commend the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for moving with speed to arrest and detain Linturi.

All sane Kenyans must wonder where Linturi was in Kenya in 2007-08. Linturi is a major threat to national security.

When, as is expected, he appears in a court of law, we hope that the judicial officers will dispense with the case quickly and in the process send a strong and unequivocal message to politicians hoping to emulate his foolhardy recipe.
