Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has launched performance contracting at the county assembly, which will be used to measure the performance of assembly staff.
Speaking at the assembly premises on Friday, the governor said his administration had intentionally introduced the tool to ensure officers deliver.
“This is a legacy regime and I’m determined to ensure there is a cordial working relationship between the county assembly and the executives,” Lusaka said.
The governor called on civil servants to execute their mandates diligently as a measure of performance.
“When we have a good working relationship between the county assembly and executives, nothing will go wrong,” Lusaka said.
"Performance contracting is a very important management tool. It enhances service delivery and keeps us in check. It is good to set targets. What is measured gets done.”
The county boss stipulated the importance of creating synergy in service delivery, noting that his executive will work closely with the county assembly to foster development and bring forth transformation.
Lusaka said previous Governor Wycliffe Wangamati's administration "messed up".
“I was before the Senate early this week and the issues we were questioned to respond to were the messes that were done by my predecessor,” Lusaka said.
If there were a good working relationship, the challenges could not have ensued, he said.
Speaker Emmanuel Situma said contracting performance will help measure officers’ performance and hold them accountable.
He said the tool will guide the implementation of programmes, policies and projects in line with the budget of the 2023-24 financial year.
The event was attended by a host of leaders, MCAs, executives and senior county officials.
