The government will inject Sh170 million to Nyeri National Polytechnic to improve its infrastructure.
The money will be allocated in the next financial year and disbursed in tranches for the next three years.
Technical and Vocational Education and Training PS Margaret Mwakima said on Monday that the money will also be used to equip the institution.
She said the government has since 2012 invested Sh320 million to develop and equip the polytechnic.
Mwakima spoke at the institution in Nyeri town when she visited to assess the level of investment the government has injected into hospitality and tourism training programmes.
The PS inspected smart classrooms, which allow automated training and provide practical simulation.
“We have looked at the equipment that we brought here for hospitality and tourism as well as for building technology and civil engineering among others,” she said.
Mwakima said the department has entered into partnerships to ensure the courses being offered are industry-driven.
Since 2013, the national government has invested Sh36 billion in infrastructure development and equipping of TVET colleges countrywide.
“For TVET, we are also financing through capitation where we are giving for each course programme Sh30,000 and the balance of which is Sh26,000 can be obtained from the High Education Loans Board,” she said.
A Sh56,000 fee is paid per term.
