The World Biofuel Day is marked on August 10 every year.
The main purpose is to raise awareness of alternative fuel sources to fossil fuels.
There are several issues surrounding the use of fossil fuels in climate change.
For decades, there have been campaigns to save the world from global warming which is attributed to the use of fossil fuels.
Energy consumption is by far the biggest source of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions, responsible for a whopping 75.6 per cent worldwide.
The energy sector includes transportation, electricity and heat, buildings, manufacturing and construction, fugitive emissions and other fuel combustion.
In recent years, there is a rise and closer scrutiny of our sources of energy leading to a general shift towards environmental awareness.
This is both from the government, non-governmental organizations, individuals and even activists across the globe.
It has led to the rise of several alternatives, environmentally friendly energy sources.
While the negative part of each can be figured out, they all contribute something positive when compared to fossil fuels.
Lower emissions, lower fuel prices and the reduction of pollution are all advantages that the use of alternative fuels can often provide.
Alternative sources of energy that are being explored well are solar power, geothermal power, nuclear energy and wind energy.
Wind energy has become increasingly popular in recent years, offering much the same benefits that many other alternative fuel sources do in that it makes use of a renewable source and generates no waste.
We are called upon to embrace the use of renewable sources of energy to save the world.
The theme of World Environment Day 2022 is Only One Earth, focusing on "Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature".
By proper use and avoiding fossil fuels, we are advancing the theme by existing harmoniously with nature.
The benefits of using alternative sources alleviate many of the problems caused by fossil fuel use, particularly when it comes to emissions.
As harmful gas emissions from human activities increase, they build up in the atmosphere and warm the climate.
This then leads to many other changes around the world in the atmosphere, on land, and in the oceans.
It has adverse effects on all living creatures in the world.
Countries must rapidly phase out coal in electricity generation, halt deforestation, increase the share of low-carbon fuels in transportation, and scale up public and private finance.
The advancement of some of these technologies has been slowed down due to the amount of investment needed to make them viable.
We can combine them all and be able to positively affect issues like climate change, pollution and many others.
