The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that it had arrested a Texas woman who fled to India after being accused of killing her six-year-old son, Noel Rodriguez Alvarez.
Cindy Rodriguez Singh, who was added to the FBI's "10 Most Wanted" list in 2023, was charged with capital murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
FBI Director Kash Patel gave "credit to tremendous fieldwork, law enforcement partners, and intelligence operatives" for her arrest, as well as officials in India, where she was apprehended.
Ms Singh fled the US in 2023, two days after police in Everman, Texas, performed a wellness check on Noel, who had not been seen since the previous October.
During the check-in in March 2023, Ms Singh said her son was in Mexico with his biological father.
Two days later, however, Ms Singh boarded a flight to India with her husband and six other children -- but not Noel. Authorities issued an Amber Alert for him soon after.
Patel said in a post on X that it is believed she had "not been back to the United States since".
Witnesses had told police Rodriguez Singh was abusive toward the boy, CBS News, the BBC's US partner, reported.
Texas authorities charged Ms Sigh with capital murder in October 2023 and the following month a federal arrest warrant was issued for her apprehension.
The FBI offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to Ms Singh's arrest.
A year after he disappeared, the city of Everman named a playground in Noel's honour.
