Police are investigating an incident in which a rider was shot and killed before being robbed of his motorcycle in Mutuati, Meru County.
The body of Douglas Mutembei, 20, was found on the roadside minutes after he had been shot in the head and robbed of his motorcycle on June 22 night, police said.
Police said the incident happened in Nkandone centre as the deceased rode on his newly acquired motorcycle.
Witnesses told police Mutembei was blocked by three unknown persons who were on another motorcycle and shot them in the head before they grabbed his motorcycle and fled the scene.
A pillion passenger who was with the deceased was injured after a fall.
Police who visited the scene said a spent cartridge was recovered as investigations go on.
No arrest or recovery has been made so far, police said.
Police suspect the gang was targeting the new motorcycle that Mutembei had.
A police squad is investigating the murder and robbery.
