One person was killed and another seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident along the busy Nairobi–Mombasa Highway on Saturday night.
Police said a 27-year-old woman, who was a pillion passenger, died on the spot after an unknown vehicle rammed into the motorbike at about 9.30 pm near the Cloud 9 area along Mombasa Road.
The rider, identified as 29-year-old Raphael Ancheo, sustained soft tissue injuries and was rushed to Shalom Community Hospital in Athi River for treatment.
According to a police report, both the motorcycle and the vehicle involved were heading towards Nairobi when the crash occurred. The motorcycle was hit from behind, causing both riders to be thrown off.
Authorities noted that neither Ancheo nor his passenger were wearing a reflective jacket. The pillion passenger also lacked a helmet, and she suffered fatal head injuries on impact. Her body was moved to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
The motorcycle was towed to Mavoko Police Station for inspection as police launched a manhunt for the vehicle that fled the scene. Investigations are ongoing.
