Police Constable Klinzy Masinde Barasa has pleaded not guilty to the charge of murdering street vendor Boniface Kariuki Mwangi on June 17 outside Imenti House in Nairobi.
This follows a mental assessment report dated July 21, 2025, by government psychiatrist Priscila Makau, which found Masinde fit to stand trial.
Following the report, the court proceeded to take plea as scheduled.
Barasa is charged with murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code.
During the court session, Barasa’s defence counsel applied for his release on bond.
However, the prosecution opposed the application, stating that the Republic had filed an affidavit outlining its reasons for objecting to bond.
A lawyer representing the family of the deceased also opposed the bond application, supporting the prosecution’s position and urging the court to deny the request.
