Principal Secretary Ouma Oluga and Pfizer Global President for Emerging Markets Nick Lagunowich on Tuesday unveiled the Pfizer Accord in Nairobi.

The partnership under the Accord for a Healthier World is a timely boost to our national agenda for Universal Health Coverage.

“It is a transformative initiative that will reduce the cost of over 140 essential medicines used to treat diabetes, cancer, and infectious diseases by up to 60%,” Oluga said.

He noted that the move would significantly expand access to life-saving treatment in public hospitals.

“We are signing this Accord to reduce the cost burden on our patients and ensure life-saving treatments are within reach for all. This is a bold step in delivering health equity,” said Dr. Oluga.

Oluga added that the Ministry of Health is committed to ensuring affordable, equitable care through reforms aligned with Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

He said that some medicines under the Accord will cost as little as available, making them accessible to more Kenyans.

In addition to expanding access to medicines, the Ministry will invest in competency-based in-service training to retrain healthcare workers, reduce negligence, and improve patient outcomes.

“This Accord reflects our shared belief that everyone should have access to quality medicines, regardless of income or location,” Oluga said.

“We are proud to partner with Kenya to advance sustainable health outcomes,” Lagunowich praised.

The Kenya Pfizer Accord is a major step in strengthening the country’s health system and delivering inclusive.
