In Summary

  • This pattern of intermittent rain follows several weeks of wet conditions in many parts of the country, offering some relief for farmers and water-dependent communities.
  • Still, the expected reduction in rainfall could slow down the momentum for those hoping for continued showers, especially in agricultural regions.

As Kenyans brace for the week ahead, the national weather outlook for May 13–19 points to a mixed bag of conditions—ranging from continued rainfall in parts of the country to searing daytime temperatures in others.

According to the weatherman, the Central Highlands, including Nairobi, along with the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the Rift Valley, and Western Kenya, are likely to experience more rain during the early part of the week.

However, the Kenya Meteorological Department notes that both the intensity and spread of the rains may decline as the week progresses.

This pattern of intermittent rain follows several weeks of wet conditions in many parts of the country, offering some relief for farmers and water-dependent communities.

Still, the expected reduction in rainfall could slow down the momentum for those hoping for continued showers, especially in agricultural regions.

Meanwhile, other areas of the country are set to heat up. Daytime temperatures are expected to soar above 30°C across much of the Coast, northeastern, and northwestern Kenya.

Residents in these regions should prepare for hot and sunny conditions and take the usual precautions—stay hydrated, avoid extended exposure to the sun, and dress appropriately.

At the other end of the scale, chilly nights are in store for the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro. In some spots, nighttime temperatures may dip below 10°C.

These cooler nights are typical of the region’s climate during this time of year, but residents—particularly the elderly, children, and those with respiratory conditions—are advised to keep warm and take care.

With such contrasting conditions across the country, Kenyans are urged to stay informed through official weather updates and make plans accordingly, whether it's carrying an umbrella in Nairobi or dressing light along the Coast.
