Waititu back in court for directions in graft case

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu will be back in court today for directions in a case where he is seeking to be released from prison on bond.

Waititu was in February jailed for 12 years by an anticorruption chief magistrate court after being found guilty in a graft case.

The court handed him an alternative fine of Sh53 million.

Waititu, who is being held at Kamiti Maximum Prison, has asked the High Court to release him on bond pending the hearing and determination of his appeal.

An initial bid for a bond was dismissed by Justice Lucy Njuguna on March 3, 2025.

However, Waititu through lawyer Kibe Mungai sought to amend his pleadings for bond in a fresh bid to get out of prison.

The Director of Public Prosecutions through counsel Vincent Monda has however opposed that bid.

Justice Njuguna last week allowed Waititu to amend his application and directed parties to file and serve their arguments ahead of today’s mention.
