Kenya has continued to foster good relations with Somalia in areas of mutual interest to advance the socio-economic development of the two countries.

This stance was reaffirmed during a meeting between President William Ruto and his Somalia counterpart Hassan Sheikh Mohamud during a meeting held on the sidelines of the African Union Extraordinary Summit on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) on Saturday, January 11.

The two heads of state affirmed the excellent diplomatic relations existing between the two countries.

"Kenya and Somalia have excellent diplomatic relations that have progressively deepened since the Horn of Africa country joined the African Community last year," President Ruto said in a post on X.

He said as a result of the good relations, the two states are doing more business than before, with Somalia buying goods worth Sh5 billion in the first nine months of 2024.

"On peace and security, Kenya and indeed the region, will continue to be engaged in collaborative efforts to ensure stability in Somalia," President Ruto said. The two heads of state met during the auspicious occasion "whose objective was to end hunger in the continent, ensure access to nutritious food, promote sustainable practices that safeguard the planet's future and position agriculture as a driver of jobs and prosperity", President Ruto said on X.

"African countries must collaborate to build resilient food systems by investing in infrastructure, fostering innovation and adopting technology," he said.

After Somalia joined the East African Community and deposited her instruments of ratification of the Treaty of Accession on March 4,2024 in Arusha Tanzania, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi lauded Somalia for the move.

He said this would go a long way in helping Somalia cement strong bilateral ties and become a key player on matters of trade and investment within the region and beyond. A move has yielded strong diplomatic relations between the two states.
