After widespread speculations on who would initiate the
impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kibwezi West MP
Mutuse Mwengi has taken the lead.
Mutuse announced on Tuesday morning in a post on
his social media page.
“As part of my civic duty as a citizen and also as part of
my role as MP, I will give notice of motion for the removal of the Deputy
President from office, by impeachment, pursuant to Articles 150 and 145 of our
Constitution,” Mutuse said.
“The evidence we shall table will shock Kenyans. Watch this
space,” he added.
So, who is Mutuse?
Mutuse is a first term MP having been elected on the
Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party ticket.
MCC is one of the affiliate parties of the Kenya Kwanza
coalition founded by the current Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.
Mutuse was elected in the 2022 General Election succeeding
Patrick Musimba who held the seat since 2013.
Kibwezi West is one of the six constituencies in Makueni
County.
The little-known politician holds a Bachelor’s Degree and a
Master of Laws from the University of Nairobi (UoN) which he attained in 2016.
During the Student Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU)
elections held in 2003, Mutuse was elected the organising secretary.
He was admitted to the bar in 2018 after completing his legal
studies at the Kenya School of Law and subsequently passing the mandatory bar
examination administered by the Council of Legal Education (CLE).
It was after this that he started to built his profile in
the legal and political arenas.
His educational journey began at Kanyangu Primary School from
1986 to 1993 where sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
He later enrolled at Makueni Secondary School between 1994
to 1997 for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Mutuse previously served as the Chief of Staff and personal
assistant to Mutua while serving as the governor.
While moving the motion, he was categorical that he had no
grudge, malice, ill will, or any personal vendetta against Gachagua.
“I am just doing my duty as a citizen of the Republic of
Kenya and executing my mandate as a member of this house to bring this motion,”
he said.
