Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir has urged President William Ruto to fulfil his promise to the people by ensuring all cases lodged against anti-government protesters are dropped.
Speaking during the issuing of grants to various fishing groups drawn from Mombasa and its environs, Nassir told Ruto that those who were injured and killed during the protest must also be compensated.
"Your excellency I have heard you and I have also heard the words of my party leader Raila Amollo Odinga, those who were injured and killed during the protests must be compensated. Action must also be taken against those police officers who used excessive force," he said.
The county boss urged the President to drop the cases of all those arrested during the protests.
"Be true to your word and I know that you will do it. Drop the cases against those arrested," Nassir added.
On Wednesday, Ruto yielded to the demands by the Opposition to have all those arrested during the recent protests released.
Ruto directed the security agencies to comply with the directive.
The Head of State at the same time directed all charges pressed against them dropped.
"I urge the Criminal Justice Agencies to take effective measures and ensure people who may have been innocently caught on the wrong side of things be released and charges dropped," he said.
Ruto is in the coastal region for a developmental tour in Mombasa and Kilifi counties.
He is accompanied by Governors Abdullswamad Nassir (Mombasa), Fatuma Achani (Kwale), former CS Aisha Jumwa, Issa Timamy (Lamu), Godhana Dhadho (Tana River), MPs and MCAs.
