The government has announced the improvement of the Gitaru interchange, moving a contractor on-site to make adjustments to alleviate traffic.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah has announced that the government is prioritising works at the crucial link to ease the flow of traffic.

In a statement on his X account, Ichung'wah said the Gitaru Interchange plays a vital role in facilitating the daily movement of countless commuters and vehicles.

The Kikuyu MP said the heavy traffic volume has led to persistent congestion, creating a significant bottleneck in the region's transportation network.

"Recognizing the urgent need to address this issue, the relevant authorities have allocated resources, and the contractor has already begun working on the site," Ichung'wah said.

Ichung'wah said the intervention is a collaborative effort to alleviate the extensive traffic congestion that has long plagued the Gitaru Interchange, impeding the smooth flow of vehicles and causing inconvenience for commuters.

"Once the project is completed, a transformative change is expected," he stated.

He said the newly constructed infrastructure not only promises to reduce congestion but also ensures the seamless and efficient movement of traffic along the major transport routes making access to Kikuyu town incredibly easy.

The major roads served by the Gitaru Interchange include the Southern Bypass and Waiyaki Way (A104).

"By expanding capacity, optimizing traffic management systems, and incorporating modern design principles, the revamped interchange is poised to improve connectivity and enhance the overall travel experience for all," Ichung'wah said.

The Gitaru interchange has been witnessing huge traffic snarl-ups, unconvincing commuters relying on the section to join Southern Bypass and Waiyaki Way.
