Rescue operations are reportedly underway in Lake Baringo after a boat capsized on Sunday.

According to police, six people were reportedly missing while one had drowned and 11 others were rescued.

Police said the boat was ferrying church members from Kampi Samaki to Kokwa Island.

A rescue operation was underway on Sunday afternoon, area police boss Julius Kiragu said.

He added they are yet to know the cause of the capsizing.

“Teams are on the ground to rescue those missing,” he said.

This is the latest of such incident.

On January 15, at least seven Kenya Defense Forces soldiers escaped death after their boat, transporting food, capsized in Lamu.

Officials said the incident happened near the Kiwayu Chandani area of the Kiunga ward in Lamu.

The group, which had departed from the Manda camp in Magogoni, Hindi ward, were ferrying food supplies when the incident happened.

The boat was hit by waves in the ocean overturning it.
