Police in Kisii are looking for a driver of a vehicle found transporting several sacks of bhang along the Kisii-Keroka road.

Police said the vehicle was being driven suspiciously when they decided to go after it.

"Today very early in the morning while our officers were on patrol along Kisii-Keroka road there was a vehicle being driven suspiciously and the officers gave them a chase," a police officer said.

He said that upon realising that officers were pursuing him, the driver diverted the vehicle to a dust road but lost control and landed into a ditch.

On searching the vehicle, police said they discovered that it was loaded with sacks stashed with brooms of canabis sativa, popularly known as bhang.

"Upon the arrival of the officers, the vehicle had 14 sacks stashed with brooms suspected to be cannabis sativa which is also suspected to be distined to either Nairobi, Nakuru or Kericho."

The officer said the driver of the vehicle managed to escape but officers are in hot pursuit.

"He can run but cannot hide and we will manage to catch up with him and put him under custody and process him soon and professionally," he said.

The officer said the street value of the consignment could not be immediately established.

"We are awaiting for experts to establish the number of kilograms then from there we can know its exact value."

The bust comes after three other suspects were on April 6 arrested in Subukia, Nakuru County while transporting marijuana disguised as animal feed.

The illicit substance is suspected to have originated from Moyale or Ethiopia.

During the operation, 45 bales of marijuana, weighing a total of 138 kilograms, were discovered packed separately in two vehicles.

The seizure followed a tip-off to the police regarding the suspicious Nissan vehicle, triggering it's interception in Subukia while enroute to Nakuru.

After a search and uncovering of nine bales hidden under sacks of hay, the driver directed detectives to his two accomplices, who were found relaxing at a hotel in Nakuru city.
