Sakaja fined Sh1 million for alleged snubbing of Senate summons

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja will now be required to pay a fine of Sh1 million for allegedly skipping Senate summons.

This was after the Senate Energy Committee fined him an extra Sh500,000.

The committee chaired by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga had a week ago fined the city boss a similar amount for snubbing its summon.

The panel has also asked the police IG to arrest and present the Nairobi governor to the committee on April 25, 2024.

The committee summoned Sakaja to explain the gas explosion in Mradi, Embakasi in February.

Tens of people lost their lives and more than 300 were injured in the incident that shocked the nation.

Properties of unknown value were also destroyed.
