German-born Kenyan Fencer Alexandra Ndolo has spent her day at the National Museum of Kenya ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024.

In a video posted by the NMK on its official Instagram page, Ndolo introduces herself before taking a walk inside the institution.

"Hi, my name is Alexandra Ndolo am a fencer for team Kenya going for the Paris Olympics and right now am at the National Museum of Kenya and happy to be here to learn all about our history," she says.

She was accompanied by four other women.

She started fencing for Kenya in 2022. Fencing is a recreational sport of swordplay where two people face each other and use modern swords to score points by hitting a target area.

The sport does not discriminate by age.

Ndolo is a left-handed epee fencer The epee is the largest and heaviest of the three weapons used in the sport. The others are foil and sabre.

With the epee, the entire body is the valid target area while the others are restricted to varying areas above the waist.

Since the entire body is a target, a successful epee fencer must be able to anticipate the opponent's moves and strike the opponent at the correct time.

The 35-year-old was born in Northern Bavaria, Germany to a Kenyan father.

Prior to fencing for Kenya, she represented Germany from 2013 to 2017.

During the 2017 European Fencing Championship in Tbilisi Georgia, she won the silver medal and a bronze medal in the 2019 championship held in Düsseldorf, Germany.

She won the silver medal in the women's epee event at the 2022 World Fencing Championships held in Cairo, Egypt.

Ndolo is ranked top of the Africa Paris 2024 qualifiers ahead of Algeria’s Taleb Batoul and Morocco’s Bousfiha Chloe.

In its post, NMK wished her well as she takes part in the championship.

"NMK was absolutely delighted to have Ms Alexandra Ndolo, the first Kenyan Fencer to qualify for the Olympics," it said.

"As an ambassador of Kenya to the world, Ms Ndolo was thrilled to learn more about our great nation at the museum. NMK and the entire nation is proud of Alexandra Ndolo and we wish her well in the Paris Olympics 2024."

The event will take place in France, from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
