German ambassador to Kenya Sebastian Groth is planning to celebrate his birthday on Wednesday in style.

Groth, known for his active presence on social media and use of the Swahili language, has invited his X followers to join him in a cake-cutting ceremony to be accompanied by live jazz music.

"So tomorrow is my birthday. Would be nice to welcome follower nambari 10k kesho. Will invite her/ him for keki na kawaha ubalozini na tamasha ya muziki ya #Jazz. Please help!" he wrote.

The response, however, surpassed his expectations, with the total number of followers quickly exceeding the milestone.

"Wow, that was fas. Asante sana. I will try to invite 9996 to 10,004 to be on the safe side. Siku njema kwa wote," he said in gratitude for the overwhelming support from his online community.

He was posted to Kenya in August 2022.

His first posting abroad actually brought him to Nairobi for the first time from 2001 to 2004-serving as First Secretary for Somalia, Burundi and South Sudan as well as Cultural and Press Attaché.

He has previously held senior posts in the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, the most recent being that of Director for Policy Planning from 2019 to 2022.
