Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has urged the Kenya Revenue Authority and other government agencies to do public participation before introducing new taxes.

The National Assembly Budget Committee chairperson said the heavy taxation is becoming unbearable.

He spoke during a church service on Sunday.

"As you make changes and especially increasing duty like the one we did recently it is important to call stakeholders and engage them," he said.

"I ask the chair of domestic taxes that the increment of duty from Sh2 million to Sh3 million, should first be put on hold and have a meeting with business people."

He said the addition of taxes would affect businesses negatively, which he said are suffering due to the rate at which the dollar decreased against the shilling having imported goods with high rates.

"Our work is to incentivize the business and most businesses will have a ripple effect of passing the high cost to consumers," Nyoro said.

“I also urge KRA to negotiate with the business owners, clear and release all containers held at the port to allow business continue.”

Nyoro said that any increase in tax duty imposes higher charges and slows down businesses.

He also added that all government agencies such as the Anti Counterfeit Authority should work to empower businesses for success.

"Our economy can grow through emulation, counterfeit authority should also work to educate and empower the business counterparts in determining fake goods," Nyoro said.

Nyoro said that this move will help boost production while promoting the country's economy, emphasizing his support for the business industry.

“Our work as the government led by President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is to uphold business in Nyamakima, Nairobi and other counties,” Nyoro said.
