Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday presided over the resumption of Kenya Airways flights to Eldoret, after a 10-year break.

Speaking on X, the CS said that the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) aims to connect all parts of Kenya enabling efficient movement of goods and people.

“This morning, I had the honour of presiding over the resumption of Kenya Airways (KQ) flights to Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, after a 10-year break. This marks the fifth new domestic destination and county the government has opened up to aviation transport in the past year,” he said.

“The Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) aims to connect all parts of Kenya and enable efficient movement of goods and people through different modes of transportation.”

Moreover, Murkomen said that BETA’s goal is to improve access to markets, reduce transportation costs and increase productivity in all economic sectors.

He said that the resumed flights testify to the great potential of counties as catalysts for growth and opportunity as well as economic prosperity.

“The resumed flights testify to the great potential of counties as catalysts for growth and opportunity. Our collective commitment to regional development, connectivity, and economic prosperity is bolstered by this simple step that our national carrier has taken today,” Murkomen said.

In celebrating the KQ’s international footprint, the CS said the airline boasts an extensive route network, including 44 direct destinations across four continents, 37 of these in Africa, coupling with many codeshares and alliance partnerships.

“The airline boasts an extensive route network, including 44 direct destinations across four continents, 37 of these in Africa. This, coupled with many codeshares and alliance partnerships, enables even more extensive reach,” he added.

“KQ's Eldoret route will facilitate crucial connections between families, foster business opportunities, and nurture the growth of the tourism industry in this region.”

Small and large-scale farmers in the NOREB region will take full advantage of the increasingly diversified transport logistics to connect to and maximise opportunities like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the Kenya-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), and the Kenya-US African Growth Opportunity Agreement (AGOA), among others.

Murkomen however recognized the efforts of all stakeholders for taking part in presiding over the resumption of Kenya Airways flights to Eldoret.
