CJ Koome gazettes Boyani Mokaya's appointment as Chief Registrar

Mokaya beat six other candidates to be appointed to the position by JSC.

Chief Justice Martha Koome has gazetted the appointment of Winfridah Boyani Mokaya as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.

The gazette notice is dated March 19, 2024, the same day Mokaya was appointed by the Judicial Service Commission to serve as Chief Registrar of the Judiciary on a five-year term.

"In exercise of powers conferred by Article 172 (1) (c), of the Constitution of Kenya, the Judicial Service Commission appoints Winfridah Boyani Mokaya to be the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary for a period of five years with effect from March 18, 2024," the notice reads.

Mokaya beat six other candidates who had been shortlisted for the position.

While confirming her appointment on Tuesday, Koome congratulated her and thanked the other six candidates who made the cut after interviews.

"The Commission shortlisted seven candidates who were interviewed on Monday, March 18, 2024. Following deliberation and careful consideration of the candidates based on merit, performance and suitability for the position, the JSC has appointed Hon Mokaya Frida Boyani as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary for a five-year term," Koome said in a statement.

Mokaya succeeded Anne Amadi who left two months ago after 10 years of service.

Mokaya will serve as the Chief Administrator and Accounting Officer of the Judiciary for the entire period of her tenure.

She will also serve as the Secretary to the Judicial Service Commission as well as Secretary to the National Council on Administration of Justice.

Mokaya has over 27 years of experience in the legal profession.

Prior to her appointment, she was serving as the JSC Registrar since 2012.

Mokaya joined the Judiciary in 1997 and served as a District Magistrate II, Resident Magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate, Principal Magistrate and Senior Principal Magistrate.
