Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has narrated how his efforts to resolve the issues that led to the impeachment of Deputy Governor Robert Monda failed.

According to Onyonka, it was the county's governance issues that led to the impeachment that had to be debated and determined by the Senate.

The senator narrated that while he is the one who brought Governor Simba Arati and Robert Monda to work together after they got elected things did not work well between them.

He insisted that the issues at play related to the governance of the county and that he had tried to engage the church, and the two leaders but nothing tangible came out of it.

Onyonka said that if anything, the matter should not have gotten to the Senate.

"I have constantly raised issues about the governance issues in Kisii. I have frequently engaged church leaders and I have talked with Dr Monda and Governor Arati.

"These two gentlemen, it is me who looked for them and told them we can go win an election. After that things didn't work well. The issues you see in this house, are a consequence of the failure of Kisii County. This matter would never have come here," Onyonka stated.

The Kisii Senator claimed that during his regular communications with Governor Arati, he even asked him to write a recommendation to ensure that his deputy is not impeached

Onyonka said that their discussions were in the process of coming up with a formula on how they could all work together by consulting each other.

"I have constantly talked with Governor Arati. We were actually beginning to talk and agree on how we could consult each other. One of the things I had asked him to do is make a recommendation so that Dr Monda cannot be impeached," he said.

According to Onyonka, impeaching Monda will not solve the governance problem that the county of Kisii is facing.

"At the end of this, you won't solve this problem. I feel let down."

On Thursday night, Monda lost his seat after the majority of Senators voted to uphold the four charges against him by the members of the Kisii County Assembly.

During the voting, Onyonka abstained from the vote. In his address, he had said that the matter should not have gotten to the Senate in the first place.

Monda was accused of gross violation of the Constitution and law, abuse of office, gross misconduct, and crimes under national law.

The Senate found him guilty of all the charges. Monda had on Wednesday denied the four charges.
