President William Ruto on Tuesday lauded Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga's leadership, saying she has set the tone for counties' collaboration with the national government.

The President said Wanga had demonstrated leadership by being the first governor to collaborate with the Kenya Kwanza government for affordable housing.

Ruto also hailed Wanga saying she is among three other county bosses who have successfully applied for the national government licence for Special Economic Zones.

"I want to thank Governor Wanga because she is the best example of excellent collaboration between the national government and counties on affordable housing," he said.

Ruto spoke when he opened the Homa Bay investment conference at the Tom Mboya University on Tuesday.

The President said that the government will soon unveil the construction of another 5,000 housing units in the county.

"We will need about 15,000 young people working in those affordable housing projects here in Homa Bay,'' he said.

On the Special Economic Zones, the president said the Homa Bay County's licence was ready and he would hand it over to the governor.

"Homa Bay is among the counties which have given us land and I will be handing over the licence today," he said.

He said two of the three counties that have applied for special economic zones are led by female governors.

The President said they will work with the county at the Rachuonyo Special Economic Zone.

"I will make sure that in the next two weeks, there will be electricity in that special economic zone in Rachuonyo," Ruto said.
