Televangelist David Gakuyo is expected to take a plea today where he may be charged with several counts of felony, obtaining money by false pretence and theft.

Milimani Chief Magistrates Court on Friday ordered that he appear before it on Monday for the same as investigations into the same are at an advanced stage.

Then, the court declined a request by the police to hold Gakuyo for four days pending further probe into allegations of embezzling one billion from members of Ekeza Sacco.

Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo instead ordered he be detained for one day.

Police have been investigating Gakuyo over a case of conspiracy to commit a felony, obtaining money by pretenses, stealing, and money laundering involving over Sh1.3 billion.

The Ekeza Sacco founder was arrested on Wednesday at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as he prepared to travel to Zambia.

Matara mention

John Matara, the man accused of killing socialite Starlet Wahu in South B, is expected in court today for a mention.

The case will be before Justice Kanyi Kimondo to determine whether the man will be released on bail or bond terms.

Matara was charged with Wahu’s murder on February 2, when he pleaded innocent.

He is currently held at the Nairobi Remand Area pending the application hearing.
