Unusual to their daily routine of running, athletes on Friday dedicated a few minutes to commit themselves to God.

As they gathered to give marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum a heroic send-off,  they decided to put themselves in prayers.

Kiptum died early this month in a road accident.

As a result, the athletes during Kiptum's burial committed a special prayer towards a road crash that claimed the life of one of their own.

Dressed in black, they knelt before the bishops and a prayer against accidents was recited.

"We want to pray for you our athletes and we stand here and declare that you will be called blessed, you will live to the banner of this country," a Bishop said.

He stated that the church wanted to commit them before God in prayers as they have the banner of this great nation Kenya.

This is the prayer that was said:

"We pray Jehovah, that you will bless them and cause them to succeed. We declare here now, that victory and success will be their portion in the name of Jesus."

"We want to refuse the spirit of accidents in the name of Jesus nullifying it. You will live long to see the fruits of your labour."

"You will be called blessed as you come in. You will be blessed God bless that as you go."

"When you continue lifting the flock of this great nation Kenya, making all of us proud and more importantly, making us excellent and the people of Kenya proud because of your talents and your gifts."

"We bless you for all the plans that you have. May they be fulfilled. So we bless you. We bless you. We bless you. This is our prayer."

"Even as we remember the demise of Kelvin Kiptum. We pray that another Kelvin will come and break records in whatever field through you shall come to pass by you people as the name of God the Father, the Son

The body of Kiptum was removed from Eldoret Hospital morgue Thursday and escorted to Iten where the public had an opportunity to view.
