Poland President Andrzej Duda will on Tuesday conclude his two-day Kenyan tour with a visit to Kiambu’s Fire and Rescue Training Center.
He will be hosted by Governor Kimani Wamatangi among other senior national government officials.
The academy, opened in 2021, was constructed by the county at Sh20 million through the support of the Polish Centre for International Aid (PCIA).
Its curriculum is accredited by the Technical Vocational Education Training Authority (TVETA) with students being trained using the latest techniques in combating fire and rescue missions.
During its opening, Poland’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs in charge of Development and Economic Cooperation for Africa and the Middle East Pavel Jablonski noted that the centre will provide high-quality professional education and certification services for firefighters.
The Polish government is also donating professional personal protection equipment and gear for their units.
PCIA is a non-governmental organization in Poland whose mission is to provide development, humanitarian and medical relief assistance throughout the world.
It was established in 2006 and since then, it has implemented projects in Lebanon, Ukraine, Nepal, Peru, South Sudan, Uganda, Tajikistan, Palestine, Georgia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iraq and Burkina Faso.
“We direct our actions to those who need it the most- victims of humanitarian crises and most vulnerable communities around the world,” read a note on its website.
It focuses on increasing emergency preparedness and facilitating economic growth and job creation in Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Lebanon, and Iraq.
During his tour, Duda is expected to announce additional support for the project that currently trains professionals from over 30 counties.
He is on a week-long tour of Africa that will also see him visit Rwanda and Tanzania.
On Monday, he held talks with President William Ruto with two Memorandums of understanding Agricultural Cooperation and the Tax Solidarity Programme being signed.
Ruto said the MoUs will cement the aspirations to promote bilateral partnerships in their respective sectors and open up new avenues for collaboration between the two countries and people.
"The two MoUs we have signed here bear testimony to our commitment to this collaboration. We have had intensive discussions to enhance trade between the two countries, which is seen by the high business delegation that has accompanied you," he said.
