Linda Machuma Wafula's body was discovered after neighbours reported a foul smell coming from her house.

Police said Wafula, 28 was last seen on February 1 at her home, before her body was discovered on Sunday, three days later.

Security officers who arrived at her house after receiving the reports discovered her body leaning against a double-decker bed.

Police said she used an electric cord, which was discovered still tied around her neck.

No suicide note was discovered in her home where she stayed alone then.

The scene was processed by crime scene investigators, and her body was moved to the Cherangany Nursing Home Mortuary for autopsy and other investigations.

Elsewhere in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, a 27-year-old woman died by suicide in their house.

The body of the woman was found hanging on the window curtain rod.

The neck had a slight injury, police said.

The victim had been receiving treatment at a local hospital and was to report on March 15, her family said.

A kitchen knife with blood stains which was suspected the deceased could have used to inflict injury on her neck before dying by suicide was recovered at the scene and kept as an exhibit, police said.

The body was moved to St Teresa Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise in the past months amid calls to address the menace.

Police say they receive up to three cases of suicide daily, which is alarming.

The victims include both members of the disciplined forces and civilians.
