Body of one-year-old recovered in pit latrine in Ruai

The body of a child aged one year and two months who had been reported missing was recovered from a pit latrine in Ruai area, Nairobi.

Police said the body was discovered by a man who had gone to relieve himself in a latrine.

The child’s parents had on February 1, reported at the local police station she was missing.

It was not until February 4 at about midday that the man spotted the body.

It is not clear what prompted the man to peep into the latrine through the hole to notice the body.

Police said they were talking to him to establish what he knew of the same.

The officers with the help of residents managed to retrieve the body from the latrine and moved it to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said the autopsy will inform the direction of their probe.

He said they are investigating a murder in the issue.

Meanwhile, a 60-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder of a 32-year-old man in Karumandi village, Kirinyaga County.

The young man identified as James Njagi is the son of the suspect.

Security officers claim that the two had argued over a piece of land before the suspect allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the chest killing him.

Police said they recovered the killer's weapon at the scene. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Elsewhere, police in Webuye, Bungoma county are investigating the murder of a 17-year-old boy whose body was found on the roadside.

The body was found in the Misimo area and had multiple injuries, police said.

The motive of the murder remains unknown.

Police said they are investigating the February 3, incident and no arrest has been made so far.
