One of the Red Cross officers around the area who alerted the Star on the incident noted that the accident happened around 2 am.

"This accident is bad, I can see several bodies here, the bus collided with a lorry that was carrying rice because we could see it scattered everywhere," he said.

A journalist who was supposed to be on the bus but missed it posted in one group thanking God for saving his life.

"I thank God so much because I booked the bus from Kisumu, I can't tell what happened because other passengers with whom we had booked it boarded while I missed it," he said.
