Over one million Form 1s report to school – Ministry

The ministry said the number of admissions from Std Eight to Form One represents a transition rate of 91 per cent.

A total of 1,268,180 learners have reported to Form One as of January 26, 2024, data from the Ministry of Education’s State Department for Basic Education shows.

The ministry said the number of admissions from Std Eight to Form One represents a transition rate of 91 per cent.

The ministry noted that 131, 854 learners were yet to report to secondary schools.

Of the total admitted, the ministry indicated that 642,396 were boys while 625,798 were girls.

"The number of learners who were selected to join Form One was 1,394, 444 which comprised 701,066 boys and 693,378 girls," the ministry said.

"Kakamega, Lamu, Marsabit, Mombasa and Turkana counties had the highest transition rate at 99 per cent."

The ministry said Kajiado had the lowest transition rate at 64 per cent followed by Narok (72 per cent), Isiolo (77 per cent), Kilifi (79 per cent), Kwale (81 per cent), Bungoma (82 per cent), Garissa (86 per cent) and Elgeyo Marakwet (87 per cent).

"The number of learners who have joined vocational training stands at 5,723 which comprises 3,128 boys and 2,595 girls," the ministry said.

"Turkana, Samburu, Mombasa and Laikipia each had 100 per cent transition for girls while Narok had the lowest 72 per cent followed by Kilifi and Kwale both registering 77 per cent."

Kakamaga, Marsabit, Mombasa, Turkana and Lamu had 99 per cent transition for boys followed by Kirinyaga, Nakuru, Laikipia, Mandera and Samburu at 98 per cent, Wajir and Nandi (97 per cent),

The number of deceased stood at 196, 100 boys and 69 girls.
