Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza was Friday forced to cut short her speech after a group of youth jeered her during President William Ruto’s meeting.

Ruto who is in the county for a three-development tour was addressing residents at Kiutine Center moments after officially opening St Mark’s Primary School.

The youths, waving placards, kept chanting as the governor tried in vain to address the crowd.

“Asante rais kwa sababu umeleta maendeleo na naomba hawa vijana wapewe kazi wawache kutumiwa...kaende kaende,” Kawira said amidst the deafening sounds from the youth.

“Naomba Dan Kiili and mheshimiwa Mithika Linturi wawapatie hawa vijana kazi mzuri waache kupiga makelele hapa kwa uwanja,” she said.

It was at this point that Ruto was forced to intervene and warn the youth as he reprimanded the leaders.

Noting the incident was regrettable, Ruto called for respect among leaders saying power is with the people and they are the ones to give the scorecard of each of them.

“Nataka vijana mskie, mambo ya kukuja kupiga kelele kwa mkutano ya rais mimi sitaki. Mskie vizuri. Tabia kama hii mimi sitaki tena,” he said.

“Hii ni kukosa heshima! Mimi nataka kila kiongozi apatiwe heshima yake. Tabia kama hii iwe ya mwisho leo,” Ruto said.

The heckling started after Ruto ordered that the governor be given the microphone to speak.

This was after Senate Deputy Speaker Kathuri Murungi ended by pleading with Ruto to have the probe into the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper expedited.

“You Excellency, we have a young man called Sniper who lives not far from here and he has not been buried…because you are our leader we want to request you to ensure he gets justice,” Murungi said.

In response, Ruto assured as a government they have already directed that all those involved be brought to book so that such similar killings come to an end in the country.
