Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi now says that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is wrong on the move to file a petition with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to have a judge removed from office.

Ahmednasir said that while he has in a few instances disagreed with the said judge, saying the judicial officer is one of the few most principled judges.

He went on to say that the judge is also not someone who can be accused of corruption or incompetence.

"Deputy President Gachagua is wrong on this. The judge is principled and has a clean record from the magistracy to the High Court," Ahmednasir said on Monday.

"I have strongly disagreed with the judge on the few occasions I appeared in court." But the judge isn't one you can accuse of corruption or incompetence."

His remarks come after Gachagua who spoke at a church service in Iten on Sunday vowed to present a petition to the Judicial Service Commission on Thursday seeking the removal of the judge.

“I will lead the Executive by example. On Thursday, I will personally present a petition to the CJ against the judge for her removal from the Judiciary,” Gachagua said.

The DP invited other Kenyans with petitions to accompany him on the said day.

President William Ruto and his allies have stepped up criticism targeting judges and litigants they alleged are working in cahoots with their political competitors.

They insist their onslaught is not against the independence of the Judiciary but a few alleged corrupt individuals out to “sabotage the work of the government.”

“We want to deal firmly with those who want to hide behind the independence of the Judiciary so that they can sabotage the development of Kenya.

"For far too long, Kenya has been held hostage by incompetence, vested interests and corruption," President Ruto said.
