The National Parents Association now wants the government to allocate its national office a budget to help them run their activities.

NPA chairperson Silas Obuhatsa noted that the parents' lobby represents over 20 million parents in the 47 counties from ECD schools to teacher training colleges if not universities.

"This means that NPA stands out as the main stakeholder in the education sector," Obuhatsa said.

Obuhatsa said the NPA is well spelt out in the Education Act of 2013 to fully operate and conduct parental empowerment and engagement to all parents with children in school in the country

"The leadership is kindly requesting the government to consider funding the association's activities through the Ministry of Education budgets in future as a way of helping the office cater for its activities. This, including running the national office that has been given to the leadership by the Ministry of Education," the NPA boss said.

"I believe the President has good plans for parents in this country and he will be very much willing to see the National Parents Association requests well taken care of by the Ministry of Education."

Further, the parents' lobby boss said they hope to conduct their grassroots elections this year.

"We request Ezekiel Machogu to help the NPA national office, through the Ministry of Education County Directors of Education to extend a hand of goodwill towards the association by giving it permission through a letter of authority to all county and subcounty offices to urgently conduct their grassroots elections," he said.

Obuhatsa said the grassroots elections are necessary to replace the overdue office bearers some, of whom have no children in school but are still in office illegally.

"I am humbly requesting my brother CS Ezekiel Machogu to issue a letter of authority to the directors to help organise and supervise the said elections together with the organization's national office soon," he said.
