Chief Justice Martha Koome, in her end-of-year message to Kenyans has urged a shift in focus for a justice system rooted in Utu, fairness, and compassion.

"As we say goodbye to 2023, let us take with us into the new year the lessons we have learned and champion a better justice system," she said.

She said the justice system with the three pillars is especially important for the vulnerable and marginalised in our society, for whom justice often seems like a distant dream.

In a statement, Koome noted that the Judiciary has been marked by a steadfast commitment to people-centered justice.

"We have shaped our interventions to ensure that we have a justice system that is accessible, efficient, and responsive to the justice needs of every Kenyan," she said.

Further, the CJ commended the efforts of judges, judicial officers, and staff, whose dedication has been crucial in our drive to attain the goal of excellence.

She described their efforts as tireless.

"I wish all Kenyans a reflective and rejuvenating end of the year and a New Year filled with resolve and commitment to the pursuit of the social every citizen."

The Judiciary has in 2023 made past judgments on some of the controversial cases, including Finance Act 2023, Housing levy, and the nullification of the position of Chief Administrative Secretaries.

Others are: the case that involved former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich in the Arror and KImwarer dams.
