The National Youths Service Commission has shortlisted five candidates for the position of Director General and Chief Executive Officer.

The five candidates have been scheduled to have their interviews on Monday, December 4, 2023, at the NYS headquarters.

They are; Njiri Nelson Mugweru, Anjere Alfred Tom, Nakitari Humphrey Okuku, Mbaruku Moses Njeru, and Tembur James Kipsiele (Current deputy DG).

"Members of the public are requested to submit written statements on oath providing evidence contesting the sustainability of any of the candidates," NYS said in a statement.

The successful candidate will take over from Matilda Sakwa whose tenure ended in April 2023.

Sakwa had handed over her mandates to James Tembur.

"Finally the day is here and am grateful to His Almighty for the time and opportunity at the NYS," Sakwa said then.

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta on September 17, 2019, confirmed the appointment of Sakwa as the director general of the NYS.

Sakwa had been running the service in an acting capacity, and after her appointment, she was tasked with ensuring that NYS reclaims its position in national development by equipping the youth with adequate skills and expertise so they can contribute to nation-building.

Before her appointment, she was working as the Machakos county commissioner.
