A suspected thug was Monday night shot and killed by police after a dramatic chase in a botched robbery in Dandora, Nairobi.
Police said they recovered a homemade gun from the suspect in the drama in Canaan area.
According to police, locals complained there were two young men riding on a motorcycle along Canaan Bridge who were terrorizing the public.
They had been riding there while robbing locals of their cash and mobile phones.
Police rushed to the scene and found them in the act prompting a brief chase that left one suspect dead.
The deceased was a pillion passenger who fell off after being shot at, police said. The rider managed to escape.
Police said they also recovered a knife and some of the stolen mobile phones from the slain suspect.
Up to five suspects have been shot dead by police in the past week in the war on armed crime in the city.
Police said they recovered stolen property and illegal weapons from them.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they have intensified operations in the city to tame criminals behind the trend of crimes in general.
He said they have deployed more officers on major streets to address the menace.
"We continue to urge for public support in this war on crime. With the public support we will win," he said.
Elsewhere in Kayole, a man was stabbed and robbed of his mobile phone.
The man told police he was walking home when a gang confronted him demanding cash and other valuables.
This prompted a brief confrontation before the man was stabbed in the stomach and robbed of two mobile phones and a wallet with an unknown amount of money in the Sunday night drama.
He was rushed to hospital and admitted in serious condition.
Police want victims of robbery to always cooperate with their attackers for the sake of their safety.
