Police are investigating an incident in which a speeding commuter train in Embakasi, Nairobi, hit and killed a man at Donholm.

The train was headed for Embakasi, police said.

Police said the incident happened on Sunday night adding the body is yet to be identified.

The victim is said to have been walking on the railway line at the time of the incident.

It is not clear if he was sober then, police said adding the driver of the locomotive hooted at him in vain.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

The incident happened two days after a similar one had occurred in the same area.

On October 26, another commuter train hit and killed a man at Kware footbridge which is near the same scene where the latest one happened, police said.

The victim was picked up from the scene by residents after the driver of the train proceeded with his trip towards Embakasi.

Police said they were informed of the incident and visited the scene but did not find the victim.

He had been removed to the hospital where he succumbed.

Officials say residents are encroaching on the railway line and there are concerns they are not taking note of their safety.

This follows increased accidents involving trains and pedestrians crossing railway lines.

There has been a push to remove those who encroach on the railway lines. The most affected areas are informal settlements.

There are calls to fence off the lines and erect footbridges.

Meanwhile, an electrician was electrocuted in an incident in Karen, Nairobi.

The victim worked for a welding and woodwork workshop in Karen.

He was identified as Benson Amakobe, 36. His employer told police the victim had gone to switch off the main power meter box at a construction yard when he was electrocuted.

He died on the spot and police were informed and took the body to the mortuary amid a probe into the same.

Officials from the Kenya Power visited the scene on Monday as part of the probe into the tragedy.
