Lenku calls for ceasefire between two Narok communities

Governors Patrick Ole Ntutu (Narok), Joseph Lenku (Kajiado) Lati Ole Lelelit (Samburu) met elders from the three Maa counties in Nairobi on October 24.

Governor Joseph Lenku has called on the Isiria and Uasin Nkishu Maasai communities in Trans Mara, Narok County, to end their protracted conflicts.

In a message to newsrooms on Friday, Lenku said that the Maa leadership council summit held in June, this year, that a peace mediation task force be constituted to spearhead the peace process between the two communities.

“I met early in the week with my counterparts Patrick Ole Ntutu (Narok), Lati Ole Lelelit (Samburu), and elders from the three Maa counties, and received a comprehensive report from the task force,” said Lenku.

He said the findings and recommendations of the task force report will be made public in a proposed meeting that will be held on October 30th and 31st, 2023.

Lenku said the meeting will be held in Transmara.

“The meeting will bring together political, religious and traditional leaders,” he said.

The governor said the Maa leadership which he heads is committed to seeing the two communities live side-by-side in peace.

He said that under his leadership, he would not allow the shedding of blood again among his people.
