At least four Cabinet Secretaries are scheduled to appear Tuesday before the Senate currently holding its sittings in Turkana.
Dubbed Senate Mashinani, the Senate will conduct its business in the county beginning September 26-29.
It is in line with Article 126 of the Constitution which states that a sitting of either House may be held at any place within Kenya and may commence at any time that the House appoints.
In the order paper, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki will be first to appear in the afternoon session to respond to a question by Turkana Senator James Lomenen on the security situation in West Pokot and Turkana counties.
On the other hand, Foreign Affairs CS Alfred Mutua will take to the floor to explain about inaction by the Kenyan government to hasten the release of Turkana pastoralists arrested in Uganda.
The question has also been submitted by Lomenen.
Mutua, in a report to the National Assembly last month, said President Yoweri Museveni has given conditions for the release of the 32 herdsmen jailed in early 2022.
They were each charged with two counts of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
“The first condition is that Kenya arrests those who killed three Ugandan geologists and two Uganda People’s Defence Force,” the report indicated.
It said in the event the condition is not fulfilled, Museveni asked Kenya to make reparations to the families of the deceased before any deliberations on amnesty for jailed Kenyans commences.
On February 20, 2023, a delegation from Kenya, led by EAC Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, went to Moroto to negotiate the release of the herders with the delegation from Uganda led by General Salim Saleh.
Others lined up are Davis Chirchir (Energy) and Salim Mvurya (Mining and Blue Economy).
Chirchir on his part will answer questions from Kajiado Senator Lenku Ole Kanar on compensation to landowners affected by the construction of electricity transmission lines in the county.
In addition, he will respond to Marsabit Senator Mohamed Chute regarding electricity transmission from the Lake Turkana wind power plant (LTWP).
Also slotted on the order paper is a question by Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale on the status of gold mining activities in his county and the stalling of construction of a gold refinery in Ikolomani to be answered by Mvurya.
