A 27-year-old woman was tragically shot and killed while attempting to intervene in a fight between two brothers in a village in Kibish, Turkana County.
According to the police, the incident occurred when Amajong Longidi, a neighbor of the feuding brothers, rushed to separate them as their physical altercation escalated.
One of the brothers had hurriedly retrieved a rifle, believed to be illegally possessed, with the intention of using it against the other.
Witnesses and the police reported that it was at this point that the woman courageously intervened.
During the course of her intervention, a bullet accidentally discharged from the firearm, striking the woman in the neck.
Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries, while the two brothers involved in the fight managed to flee the scene.
Police promptly responded to the incident, securing the area and transporting the woman's body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
They have also launched a search for the two brothers who fled the scene.
In a separate incident within Lodwar, police are investigating the murder of another 27-year-old woman named Doreen Gakii.
Her lifeless body was discovered in her residence in California Market Village, located in Lodwar town.
Neighbours said they noticed blood flowing from the door of the deceased prompting their curiosity.
The door had been locked from outside which prompted them to check the source of the blood.
Upon entering the residence, they found her lifeless body with a throat laceration, though no other bodily injuries were evident at the time, according to the police.
Authorities are currently working to determine the motive behind this tragic incident.
The victim's body has been moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, and investigations into the identity and motive of the killer are underway.
As of Friday, the police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the possible perpetrator and uncover the motive behind this distressing crime.
