Ezra Chiloba yet again made news on Monday evening after he was suspended as the Communications Authority (CA) Director General.

His suspension came after a board meeting, that saw  Christopher Wambua appointed in acting capacity.

The suspension came just two years after his appointment to the docket. He took over from Francis Wangusi following his retirement in 2021.

Before his appointment to CA, Chiloba had been sacked as Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) in October 2018.

At the time of his sacking, the 44-year-old alleged that the commissioners unprocedurally voted to send him on compulsory leave 'allowing them to stage-manage an internal audit that would justify their end.'

“The Commission proceeded to frame the issues raised in the internal audit as disciplinary, leading to a show cause letter. It is through the show cause letter that I saw the internal audit report for the first time,” he said.

When he was suspended from IEBC executive officer in April 2018, Chiloba embarked on agribusiness at his rural home in Trans Nzoia, terming the season as peaceful.

“Don’t think Chiloba is idle. I’m busy in the village. I have much peace here. I am so tired of the noises out there. My target is to transform this piece of land into something more productive,” he said.

He was appointed to the executive officer position in 2015.

In the 2017 elections, Chiloba became a sensation as he would hold briefs informing Kenyans about the status of the vote count and in many instances cooled down the tension in the country.

'Chilobae' has also served in many departments in the country including board member of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund, deputy team leader in charge of governance under an international collaboration managed by the Drivers of Accountability Programme.

He has over 15 years in public-sector management, including five years at the United Nations Development Programme in Kenya, Kenya National Commission on Human Rights and Oxfam Novib.

The soft-spoken Chiloba pursued a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi, doubling up with a Master of Arts in Public Policy from Central European University (CEU), and later enrolled for a PhD in Political Science at the University of Nairobi.

He was named Top 40 Under 40 men by the Business Daily in 2015.

Chiloba has, however, kept information about his family private but Kenyans know he is a married man. This is according to former  IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe.

Akombe had in 2017, while delivering the final verdict on the presidential poll, said Chiloba had topped Google search trends because his marital status was the most searched.

“I am really going to be disappointing a lot of young beautiful women out there. Too bad! Our CEO has been taken. He is happily married and he is not a Muslim,” she said.
