A secondary teacher drowned in a pit latrine that was under construction as he relieved himself in Saboti, Trans Nzoia.

Police said Nahashon Mwangi, 41, had gone for a short call to a pit latrine that was under construction but in use when he slipped and drowned.

The incident happened at a private residence in Bondeni where he was visiting a colleague.

Witnesses told police the deceased had rushed to the latrine for a call of nature when he stepped on a slippery wood covering the structure, which was under construction and had water inside.

He drowned and the body was later retrieved and taken to the mortuary, police said.

An investigation into the weekend tragedy is ongoing, police added. Most people use pit latrines in the country.

In Kipsaina, Trans Nzoia, a 14-year-old boy died by suicide on an avocado tree.

The body of the boy was discovered on the tree with a nylon rope around his neck.

Police said they are yet to establish the motive of the incident. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and probe.

In Nairobi’s California area, police said a 30-year-old man died by suicide after his house was locked over non-payment of rent.

Samuel Kimani jumped from the fourth floor of his house and landed on his head dying on the spot.

Police said they were called and informed the man had died by suicide after complaining his house had been locked for non-payment of rent.

His sister told police the deceased had complained life was hard for him and he needed to die before he jumped off to his death.

Police say they are investigating the incident.

In Kayole, Nairobi, one Duncan Nganga aged 40 died by suicide after hanging himself on a rooftop of a building under construction.

His body was found at the scene by locals who called police and took it to the mortuary pending autopsy.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known.
