Detectives from Kisauni in Mombasa have arrested a police officer who is said to have aided the escape of a suspected robber from the cell.
The officer, according to the police, was on duty as a cell sentry at Mjambere police station where the suspect and another man had been remanded.
The duo was facing charges of robbery with violence at the Chanzu law courts.
A report filed at the station states that the officer had escorted one of the suspects to go and have a bath when the incident occurred.
“The officer removed the suspects allegedly to take them to bath at the dogs’ kennel whereby the suspect managed to jump over the perimeter wall and escaped,” the report says.
The officer is now being held for interrogation with the search for the escapee having been mounted.
