Beneficiaries of the social safety net programme (Inua Jamii) will now receive their money monthly.

In the past, the government made payments into the accounts of beneficiaries after every two months.

Nyeri County Children Officer Mwaniki Kung’u hailed the move terming it a big relief for hundreds of beneficiaries who initially had to wait for months before accessing the money.

“Towards the end of this month, we expect to pay out money for August and embark on enlisting new beneficiaries under the programme as directed by the Head of State,” Kung’u said.

Inua Jamii programme is the government's flagship National Safety Net Programme whose objectives are to uplift the lives of the poor and vulnerable citizens through regular and reliable bi-monthly cash transfers.

The government released Sh2.8 billion which has been credited into the accounts of over 1 million beneficiaries, who will receive Sh2,000 as payment for July.

The programme includes Cash Transfers for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, Older Persons Cash Transfer, Persons with Severe Disabilities Cash Transfer and the Hunger Safety Net Programme.

President William Ruto directed that the money for the programme be released on the 15th of every month.

Ruto committed that his administration will be diligent in ensuring the timely disbursement of funds.

“If there are people who deserve our support, it is vulnerable in society,” he said during an Interdenominational Church Service in Taita Taveta on July 24.
