Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has warned the opposition that they will not threaten President William Ruto.

Nyoro, who chairs the National Assembly's Budget and Appropriations Committee, said the President has demonstrated leadership.

He said the opposition had threatened a mother of all demonstrations but would live to regret trying to disturb the country's peace.

"For those people of maandamano, I think you now know that the President is not someone you can easily threaten," he said.

Speaking on Friday at Consolata Girls High School in Kiharu, Murang'a County, Nyoro said the government's response to the protests by Azimio taught the opposition a lesson.

The opposition called for three-day countrywide protests which started on Wednesday, but the police response appeared to have subdued most demonstrations.

On Friday morning, most parts of the country were calm with normalcy returning after two days of tension and running battles with police.

Nyoro also lauded the police for managing to contain the protests saying they had done a commendable job in protecting the lives and property of Kenyans.

He said that the task force on police reforms should complete its work the soonest so that officers can have their welfare enhanced.

"It is now time that the task force must complete the report so that we add our police officers salaries and allowances," he said.

The task force, chaired by Former Chief Justice David Maraga, has been collecting views from stakeholders on the reforms within the National Police and Prisons Services.
