Lobby groups have called on the DCI and the ODPP to take stern action against Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama for alleged misuse of firearm.

The lobbies in a joint statement on Friday said his action is against section 88 of the Penal Code of Kenya adding that it is vital for the nation's stability and prosperity that leaders act as beacons of hope and reason.

“Arama brandished his gun on Wednesday when peaceful demonstrators questioned him over the passage of the Finance Bill. At some point he was heard in a viral video threatening to pull the trigger if protesters did not disperse,” the statement read in part.

“Leaders must exercise their positions responsibly, and promote unity, understanding, and constructive dialogue rather than fueling unrest,” the joint statement says.

They have acknowledged that not all the protesters are peaceful, adding that some turn into vandalizing private and public property and robbing bystanders.

They condemned the acts of hooliganism as unacceptable and called on protesters to conduct themselves with responsibility.
